5 Common Physical Therapy Myths----Busted!

Physical therapy is often misunderstood and mistaken as only massage lol, so let’s clear up 5 common myths:

Myth 1: You need a referral to see a PT. ➤ In many states (including Illinois), you can go directly to a physical therapist—no doctor’s note required.

Myth 2: No pain, no gain. ➤ Wrong. Pain isn’t the goal. Discomfort during rehab can be normal, but sharp or increasing pain is not.

Myth 3: PT is just exercise. ➤ Physical therapy includes hands-on treatment, education, lifestyle changes, and customized movement strategies. It’s not just massage, it’s also just not exercise.

Myth 4: PT is only for the elderly. ➤ From athletes to office workers to postpartum moms, physical therapy benefits everyone. And it’s all natural, no pills or surgery or injections. Cool Right?

Myth 5: Once you start PT, you’re stuck forever. ➤ Not true. A good PT’s goal is to empower you, not keep you dependent.

If you’re unsure if physical therapy is right for you, contact me in the link below and tell me your story. We can do a virtual consult or in-person consult (if around Naperville, IL area) FOR FREE.
